What is your wedding photography style? | Charlotte wedding photographer

Feb 17, 2016

There is much to be said about style.  Even for someone that doesn’t consider herself a fashionista — I know what I like and tend to keep within a predictable range of style in clothes, shoes, hair and decor.  The same goes for photographs.  Style matters.  Does personal style influence the type of photographs I create?  Does it influence the type of photographs you love?  I believe that it does.

I hear it a lot when I meet with potential clients — the “what style would you consider your work?” question.  If fact, I’ve come to expect it.  I can only assume that this particular question made its way onto one of the “50 questions to ask the photographer” lists that are frequently circulated by popular wedding blogs and magazines.  I get it, you are excited and new to wedding planning and being overstimulated by wedding industry buzzwords from every angle.  Honestly though, it is a valid question…when you know what to do with the response.  Why DOES style matter when choosing your wedding photographer?

Style can be the difference between you liking your wedding photos and you falling in love each time you look at those wedding photos.  You need to LOVE your photos.  You need to WANT to hang them on your walls and place them on your mantle in that classic silver frame.

It is important that you look through social media, portfolios and complete wedding galleries to get a complete idea of what to expect from your wedding photographer — BEFORE you hire someone.  As a photographer there is nothing more disheartening than when a couple books you and then pulls a style 180 when it come times to do the work.  Do you love what they do and how they present themselves?  Do not assume that a certain type of picture will show up in your wedding gallery if there is no evidence of that type of photo anywhere else in his or her work.

Hiring a photographer requires trust.  You need to trust that they are capable to photograph one of the most important days of your life — and do it well.  When you have trust in the person behind the camera you feel free to enjoy yourself instead of worrying over the details.  Being in the moment on your wedding day is without a doubt the easiest way to have beautiful memories both the day of, and in photographs forever.

So true and so good! Love how you mentioned the top 50 lists, we get those all the time and I really think people don’t always fully understand it!
